Blogmas Day 7: Christmas Cookies!

YUMMY!
Yes, today I am doing a post on Chirstmas Cookies! This is mostly because I am baking right now and I thought it would be fun to share and maybe inspire you to do some baking too! :) In this blog post I will go over sugar cookies and gingerbread cookies. I bought cookie dough already made, so I won't go through the baking and mixing steps in detail but I will put a link to a recipe if your interested in see that :)
Sugar Cookies
What You Are Going To Need:
- Cookie Dough
- Cookie Cutters
- Icing
- Food Colouring
- Sprinkles
How to Make it:
Get the cookie dough and put flour on it and roll it out. Then get some cookie cutters (it can be stars or anything) and cut the dough. Bake as directed on the package.
When it is baking you can make some icing! For the icing you will need 1 cup icing sugar and 1 -2 tbsp of milk. The whip until it looks like icing (haha). Or you can also buy white icing if you don't want to make it.
You can separate the icing into little bowls and make each one a different colour. Just put in a few drops of food colouring. I made my icing red, green, and white.
Spread the icing on the cookie after it has baked and cooled. Then add sprinkles! I have a bunch of Christmas sprinkles, there are little trees and red and green sprinkles! Cute, eh? :)
Here is a recipe if you are interested in making our cookies homemade: http://www.kraftcanada.com/en/recipes/easy-sugar-cookies-107061.aspx
Gingerbread Cookies
Run, Run, as fast as you can! You can't catch me I'm the gingerbread man!
Hopefully, you don't have any run away gingerbread men! Haha :)
Here is what your going to need to make it:
- cookie dough
- cookie cutters
- icing (and a baggie)
- candy (like jubjub candies)
How to make it:
Get the cookie and roll it out flat (don't forget the flour!). Use the cookie cutter and cut the cookie dough into little men. Bake as directed on the package.
You can make the icing just like you did in the sugar cookie one. Once you have your icing separate it into Ziploc sandwich bags. You can add food colouring to how many baggies you have. Push the icing to a corner of the baggie and then cut a little hole. This will help you design the cookies. Make a little hole at first and then go bigger if you need too.
Once the cookies are done baking and cooled its time to put the icing on!
I like to make an outline around the gingerbread man and then add a smile. Then I make two little dots of icing like buttons and put the jubjub's on it. YUM!
Here is a recipe if you are wanting to make them homemade: http://www.kraftcanada.com/en/recipes/gingerbread-people-84137.aspx

These also make really cute presents! It is something I am giving to my friends. Just get a cute tin from Wal-Mart or Zellers (Target if you live in america) and put in the cookies! :)
Hope you enjoyed this blog post and I will talk to you later!

Bon Appetit - Pumpkin Seeds!

After you have finished carving your pumpkin it is always best NOT to throw out those pumpkin seeds! They can be a tasty treat everyone will love :)

Did you know that pumpkin seeds are not only yummy but healthy too? Here's some benefits: They help prevent cancer, rich in minerals and protein, help your prostate and more :) If you are interested on learning other ways pumpkin seeds are healthy check out this website: http://www.whfoods.com/genpage.php?tname=foodspice&dbid=82

Prepare
You want to prepare your pumpkin seeds before you roast them. Remove all the pulp from the seeds  Once you have finished that rinse them off. Then dry them and leave them on a pan overnight. You can also skip rising the seeds off and keeping the pulp on the seeds, it is up to you!

Here is the basic way to cook them:
Put your pumpkin seeds in a bowl with 1/4 salt and 2 tsp of vegetable oil, make sure all the seeds are evenly coated. Then put your seeds on a backing sheet and preheat the oven to 360. After the oven is preheated put in the pumpkin seeds for 15 - 20 minutes or until seeds are a deep golden brown.

You can get creative with what you put on your pumpkin seeds! In my family we like to put soya sauce on them and some spices. You can also put chili powder, garlic powder, Cajun powder, or any other strong seasoning. If you want it sweet why not try cinnamon, sugar and nutmeg? You can also use hot sauce or Worcestershire sauce. The possibilities are endless!

When cooking them you can also have the oven setting on broil or cook them in a pan (when cooking in a pan make sure you always keep them moving).

That is how you bake pumpkin seeds! I am thinking of doing another Halloween tutorial tomorrow :) Let me know if there are any that you would like to see, I am still planning on doing the mad hatter! So, that is all, I think I am going to go roast some seeds now because writing this post is making me reallyyy hungry, lol :) Talk to you tomorrowwww!

Do you roast your pumpkin seeds?

Today I am going to do a post about what to have for breakfast! Everyone knows breakfast is the most important meal of the day because it gives you lots of energy. These are just so healthy ideas to have in the morning. I am going to go by the days of the week. So on Saturday and Sunday you will have more complicated breakfasts and it will take more time then on the weekday when time isn't always on your side.

Sunday - yummy french toast
to make 2 slices of french toast here is what you will need:
- 1 egg
- 2 pieces of bread (I prefer whole wheat but you can use whatever kind you want)
- cinnamon to taste
- 1/2 tsp of vanilla extract
- Pam or any non-stick spray
- milk (you can use nonfat skim milk as an alternative to the normal milk)
optional:
- frozen or fresh fruit
- maple syrup
- icing sugar
1) Heat up your frying pan and put the non-stick spray on it. I suggest having it at medium heat.
2) Whisk your egg, vanilla extract, cinnamon and milk (use your judgement, I like to have it when it like to have mine looking foamy). Soak your bread in the mixture.
3) Put your bread on the frying pan. Cook until it is golden brown on each side.
4) When it is cooking, microwave your frozen berries for a few seconds.
5) Put your french toast on a plate. Put the berries on top with maple syrup and some icing sugar.
If you have a lot of extra egg mixture you can just cook them up like scrambled eggs and have it as a side to your french toast!
Monday - Oatmeal and Berries!
ingredients:
- instant oatmeal (I like the maple and brown sugar one, but you can always get original and add brown sugar)
- frozen berries

2) When it is cooking (or after) microwave your berries
3) Put it on top! Now you have a filling and healthy breakfast :)

2) Whip your egg and egg whites together, add salt and pepper to taste

4) Cook your toast, when it pops put butter or jam
5) Put your scrambled egg whites on your plate with toast and side of fruit!
Thursday - Yogurt, granola and fruit!
ingredients:
- Yogurt (I like vanilla the best, but you can use whatever kind you want)
- Granola
- Fruit (like strawberry, blueberry, ect.)

- your favourite cereal (like lucky charms or you can have a healthy cereal)

Saturday - Pancakes and turkey bacon!
ingredients
- pancake mix, or how ever you make pancakes at home
- fruit (if you want blueberries in your pancake or as a topping)
- turkey bacon
1) heat up your frying pan & add your turkey bacon (I suggest medium heat)
2) Cook it for 10 min on each side, or until or however you like it (crispy or not). The package might also have cooking times.
3) Once it is cooked put it in the oven on low, this will just keep it warm when cooking your pancakes
4) Mix your pancake batter and add blueberries if you want.
5) Heat up your frying pan and add cooking spray to it (on medium heat)
6) When pancake starts to bubble a lot on the one side flip it, and then wait until it is golden brown.
